Nitya returns to the Rhythm Festival for a second year, dazzling audiences with her educational and dynamic performance.
The Seattle World Rhythm Festival is a three day immersion into world music and dance. The World Rhythm Festival is 3 days packed with an amazing range of world music traditions, including African, Middle-Eastern, Latin, Indian, Brazilian, North American, and more. At the SWRF, Nitya will highlight the diverse and exciting rhythmic structure of South Indian Classical Dance. Based on a mathematical structure, the rhythmic patterns allow for great variety in how a song is segmented, therefore adding diversity and innovation in South Indian Classical dance. Nitya will present pieces interweaving pure and expressional dance, highlighting the ways rhythm can accentuate the mood of each piece. She will also introduce the recitation of the 'sollukattu' or uttering of rhythmic syllables, similar to the bhols in North Indian Kathak. The performance will be educational as well as entertaining.
